The DUMBAS (Deployable Unilateral Modular Briefcase & Shield) for Nerf by AaronPlinks
Details
AaronPlinks' Deployable Unilateral Modular Briefcase And Shield (DUMBAS) for Nerf
*Please note that parts of the DUMBAS are handcrafted, so slight variations in dimensions or minor imperfections may be present. The DUMBAS featured in the video are prototypes and will vary slightly with the actual product.
*The DUMBAS is a toy shield that is only meant for use in nerf-type games with soft tip foam darts, in gel blaster games with gel balls, or for cosplay only.
*Proper eye protection must be worn at all times during gameplay.
Reimagined and assembled by AaronPlinks, the DUMBAS is a nerf-type toy briefcase shield that is lightweight, portable, durable, tacticool and modular. It is heavily inspired by real-world ballistic shields, especially the foldable briefcase ones.
The DUMBAS is made of materials typically used for tactical gear, and is able to withstand high FPS hits from nerf-type soft tip foam darts.
It can be carried and deployed anywhere and anytime in mere seconds. It is unilateral and can be used with one hand. It is modular and made up of three detachable flexible panels, each segment having its own molle system to mount your favourite molle attachments. It is tactical, compact and folds back together to its briefcase form.
Description:
The DUMBAS is available in 2 colours: tan and black. (Colours shown in pictures and video may vary slightly due to different screens types and display settings.)
What you get:
1) The preassembled DUMBAS with 3 molle panels and 4 pouches
2) Additional 4th molle panel with 2 velcro strips (to extend the length of the shield if needed)
3) Additional carry handle
The shield has molle at the front and back. The back has two molle directional flip adaptors with velcro (detachable and adjustable) which act as carry handles when using the shield.
The front also has two additional molle directional flip adaptors with velcro for attaching your favourite patches or pouches.
It also comes with briefcase-style carry handles, and buckles at both ends.
To deploy the DUMBAS, simply undo both buckles, and the panels will gravity drop.
Measurements:
The DUMBAS measures about 41 centimetres wide, 28 centimetres high, and 2 centimetres thick, similar to the size of a small laptop bag or briefcase. It weighs around 1.5 kilograms (3 panels with 4 mounted pouches).
Once extended fully, it measures about 76 centimetres (3 panels) or about 100 centimetres (4 panels).
Important Tips:
1) If you intend to close the DUMBAS properly and maintain its overall slim and compact design, it is best to attach molle attachments and thinner accessories only on one single panel.
This also applies if you want to use it for escort-the-VIP type games and intend to deploy the DUMBAS from its briefcase form.
If you want to start using the DUMBAS already fully extended, which is what most players will do, you can attach other molle accessories, such as a small dump pouch or a holster.
2) Works great with the one-handed reload shield loadout using the HC Diana brushless flywheel blaster and mag extensions.
If you are using the HC Diana blaster or others types of flywheel blasters without any mag extension, simply mag drop into a dump pouch or onto the floor, switch the blaster to the left hand, reload with the right hand, switch it back to the right hand, and continue firing.
3) Flywheel blasters or lightweight AEBs are highly recommended with this setup, as it will be difficult to prime a springer when the other hand is holding the shield.
4) Recommended Diana setups for the DUMBAS in its briefcase form are either 4 magazine pouches holding 4 Diana extended magazines at the lower panel, or a single holster for the Diana at the lower panel.
5) The DUMBAS can also be detached into smaller separate shields, to share some protection with your teammates.
6) Extend the DUMBAS with the included 4th molle panel and velcro strips. It becomes an even taller shield at about 1 metre high and can cover more of the lower body. Without any internal molle attachments, the 4 panels also fold up nicely to transform back to its briefcase form.
7) To fold back nicely to its briefcase form, the DUMBAS has to be either in its 4-panel configuration with no molle attachments, or 3-panel configuration with it's 4 default pouches.
